Don’t worry, the Brunch will be back in 2021, but we need your help NOW. Proceeds from the fundraiser would have assisted people in our Resettlement Program and Reentry Welcome Center with emergency housing and basic needs when released from prison.
No one should have to worry about where they will sleep, but it is the reality for people returning home after prison. When you add the COVID-19 health crisis, you have a whole new set of challenges to filling this need, with most temporary shelters closed or at reduced capacity. Fidel knows firsthand what it’s like leaving prison homeless in the middle of a pandemic.
On the day of his release, Fidel was dropped off at the Reentry Welcome Center, where our staff quickly partnered with area housing agencies. Together, we found Fidel temporary housing at a safe, clean low-cost hotel until we found him a room to rent. He also received a no-contract phone that was vital to staying connected to essential services.
Reentry emergency housing at hotels and sober houses is an expensive solution. We are quickly using up grants that paid for weeks of emergency housing and basic needs for Fidel and others returning home.
Loyal supporters of CPA’s reentry services are making a real impact. Help us reach our $10,000 goal. Consider giving a gift of at least $35 to the Resettlement Program—the ticket price if you were attending the Brunch.
