The Prison Arts! Virtual Reception, hosted by the Monastery Gallery of Art and the JustFaith Ministry of Holy Family, is Sunday, February 6th from 4 to 5 pm. The event is an opportunity to hear about featured works from the Community Partners in Action Prison Arts Program Permanent Collection.
Jeffrey Greene, curator of the collection, will talk about the value and importance of art to prisoners and offer insights into some of the works of art on display.
Here is a window into the world of the prison–into lives lived surrounded by cinder block walls, and the work being done to transcend those walls through art. The virtual reception is being offered online via the Zoom platform. Click here to register.
Reception attendees and other members of the public are invited to drop off donations of art supplies at Holy Family in support of the Prison Arts Program. Donation boxes are located at the front desk and outside the main chapel. Here is a list of items needed.
The Prison Arts! exhibit will run through Feb. 28 and may be viewed either in person or virtually on the Monastery Gallery website. The Monastery Gallery of Art at Holy Family Retreat Center is located at 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford.
