Prison Arts Exhibition

Prison Arts Program

On the inside, Prison Arts provides advocacy for artists, art supply distribution, workshops, group critiques, collaborative projects, murals, exhibition, and publication opportunities. On the outside, Prison Arts organizes and participates in exhibitions, public art projects, community events, and prints and distributes a variety of arts and health education publications.

The Prison Arts Program positively and constructively changes the lives of people who are incarcerated and the prison environment by encouraging

  • Creativity
  • Self-discipline
  • Work ethic
  • Self-esteem
  • Technical and communications skills
  • Introspection

The Juvenile Detention Enrichment Program provides youth ages 12-18 with an outlet for physical and emotional expression, encourages positive social skills, and creates an opportunity to work with other youth and staff in a different and positive manner.

Operating inside the Connecticut Juvenile Detention Centers, services include

  • Art
  • Music
  • Yoga
  • Dance
  • Pet therapy
  • Youth development

The participants benefit by developing coping skills and experiencing healthy interactions that can continue after their release. Our goal is to help these young people redirect their energies in positive ways, giving them the tools they need to succeed.
