2023 Sister Nancy Audette Outstanding Accomplishment Award
Former Participant, Resettlement Program. Sharon embodies the spirit of resilience after leaving prison.
About Sister Nancy Audette: In 1992, Sister Nancy Audette established CPA’s Resettlement Program, our longest-running reentry program. She originally designed the program based on a refugee model, where people leaving prison would be matched with a church community to obtain necessary reentry support. Due to the large number of people needing reentry support, Sister Nancy modified the Resettlement Program to a pre- and post-case management model. Church communities throughout CT are still actively engaged and valued partners of CPA’s reentry programming.
Sister Nancy’s vision in 1992 helped create our Greater Hartford Reentry Welcome Center in 2018 and our Greater Waterbury Reentry Welcome Center in 2021. The Resettlement Program’s reentry model, which includes long-term pre- and post-release case management services and a strong network of community partners, is the foundation of CPA’s reentry programming. In July 2023, CPA fully integrated the original Resettlement Program model into both Centers and retired the “Resettlement” name.
Performance:
Justice Dance Performance Project (JDPP):
Moving for change since 1989, JDPP bridges the boundaries of art and social justice through dance-theater performance and multi-arts programming. JDPP is based in Hartford, under the artistic direction of founder Judy Dworin, with performances in theaters, colleges and universities, prisons and inner-city schools. CPA and JDPP are long-time partners who have worked together on programs and other activities for many years.
