🎨Prison Arts

“Creative Connecticut: James D.E. Scott”

In collaboration with the Community Partners in Action Prison Arts Program, The Wadsworth presents the visionary work of incarcerated artist James D.E. Scott. Made from soap, floor wax, and other materials that are accessible within the prison system, Scott’s elaborate sculptures explore fantasy, architecture, and religious themes.

James D.E. Scott’s soap sculpture “The Church of the Angels,” is located in the main entryway of the museum of “The Helen & Harry Gray Court,” part of the museum’s “Creative Connecticut” series.

“Out of Prison Making Art” Prison Arts Alumni Show

This year’s alumni show will be the first for two long-term, hugely impactful, artists: James Pinder, the “Norman Rockwell of Connecticut prisons,” and Mark Despres, easily the most prolific (and surreal!) artist we have ever worked with both artists are home after over 30 years incarcerated. We look forward to celebrating the hard work that brought them home and to following their work on the
